It really does depend on the model. There are some serious Silvertone guitar collectors out there who will pay good money if it is in pristine condition.

a new set of strings costs practically nothing. Do that for sure; try to get the same gauge (thickness) so you don't have to adust the neck. Do NOT replace anything else. If the guitar is valuable for its age, replacing hardware will devalue it. Silvertone guitars were not expensive guitars and the one you have may not be worth anything other than as an instrument you can play. Or it might be a collectible. Depends on the exact make, model, and condition it's in. See if you can find a model number and serial number, and research it online. This is your best way of getting some initial idea of what you have. Beware of taking it to a music store who makes you a lowball offer. If three stores all tell you its junk, it probably is. But the oldest trick in the book is to tell someone their old guitar is worthless and then turn around and sell it for big bucks.

Silvertone's have some collector value, but $650 is way too high. I'd think $350 to $450 would be reasonable.
