A 50 yard free race is mostly the start, turn and finish with a little swimming in between. Practice those parts with a REALLY TIGHT streamline and FAST HARD kicking. Never breathe on your first stroke off the start or turn, and don't breathe right before the turn. My rule is to not breathe in the area between the flags and the wall. Your first pull out of the streamline should be the hardest & fastest stroke of all. From your turn, the first pull should be with the arm that is closest to the bottom. This will pull you over to your stomache & it will be much more powerful. While you are swimming, make sure that you have a long, full stroke that goes past your hips. DO NOT CUT YOUR STROKE SHORT! You will not go faster just because your arms are going faster. You have to keep your technique good & efficient. I have seen someone swim a faster freestyle with an efficient, slower stroke than someone with faster shorter strokes. The more water you pull, the farther you go with less strokes. Iff your stroke is strong enough, you will be ok.
If these are new things to you, they will feel weird for a while & it might seem like you are swimming slower. Just give it time & you will get used to it & you will be swimming faster times.
Just practice, practice, practice!!! AND HAVE FUN!

Just do a lot of sprints. Quit doing the endurance sets for practice if you're in charge of your own practice and work on sprints. The most you should do is like a 250 warm up on 3:00 or something. Then something like 4 100's on 1:15 won't hurt either with some 50's on 45 added into the mix. If your coach takes care of this then talk to him/her and see what they have to say and if they have any advice on additional training you can do.

I have, I am 11. Take less breaths, only breath when you need to. And when you do breath, make them fast. Make your turn crazy fast and blast off the blocks. Take your kick-outs to your advantage, kick hard and have 4-6 kicks. Don't breath off your break-out. Don't drag your arms or legs, make everybit of yourself useful. And remember, it is only a 50, so go as hard as you can on it. On the finish, stretch your arm and touch with your fingertips, not your hand. But above all, listen to exactly what your coach says, he/she knows best. Have fun, don't pressure yourself, be confident, know what you are doing.

you need to practice practice practice. make sure your kicking (don't drag your legs) and you have a tight streamline, try to take at least three strokes after your flipturn. and make sure to pull the water don't just move your arms just get in the pool and practice timing yourself for example swim it in 45 then 40 push yourself and do 30 and try as hard as you can for 25 and make sure you have a good start that can make all the difference, with alot of practice and determination you can do it just work hard! GOOD LUCK!

Work on your breathing a lot! The less you breath, the faster you'll go! Flip-turn and dive well. One of the guys I know got number two in the state of Ohio for 50 free. He dives well and doesn't breath unless absolutely necessary! Good luck!

Stay under water longer. Work on holding a tighter streamline. Push hard off the walls. Never breathe into or out of a flip turn. KEEP SWIMMING. YOU'LL DO IT!

breaking 30 for the first time feels so good! and when you break 30 you just want to go faster..
Its funny how there are psychological barriers like that, good luck! train hard, and leave everything in the pool!

just like the others said, practice practice practice
6 years is impressive but it can take awhile for different people to meet 30 seconds
also, do more sprints in your practice
