Do you think it makes you cooler to have an exotic pet? What is the matter with adopting a cat or dog from death row at the pound?

Though they can both be fun pets, I would recommend the ferret. Monkeys don't always do well around strangers (some can be very agressive). And though a capuchin is one of the better choices, they can still be very difficult especially if you are not familliar with them as a species. Because of their strong bond to their family, it can be difficult to have someone else care for your monkey. What if you had to go away for a few days. Who would take care of him/her while you were gone? Some monkeys will not accept a stranger coming in to care for them. A monkey can die of lonelieness in a short time. Taking him/her with you may not be an option (depending upon the laws of the area you are going to)
If your monkey were to bite someone and they had to go to the doctor, you would more than likely loose the monkey ( because they would be considered a wild animal and therefore dangerous)
Depending on where you live, you may not be able to get either one (because of laws governing wild or exotic animals). Check into you state and local regulations before you get either. You don't want to get a pet, only to loose it because of one of these things.
Before you make any kind of decision, do a lot of research both on line and by reading books. If you know someone who has or has had either a ferret or a capuchin monkey, ask them what it's like to own one and what kind of problems can arise as well as why they would recommend having one as a pet..
When you're looking up info, check into the lifespans of capuchins in captivity and ferrets. Capuchins live much longer than a ferret though I can't remember the specifics.
Hope this helps. Good luck.

Well I believe a ferret would be easier to care for and feed and less messy than a monkey...
The monkey needs lots of room to roam and swing and play and use up his energy...
He will also make a mess everywhere with food and tearing things up and breaking things, and being smelly...
With a ferret, you can have them de-scented so they wont smell bad and they usually potty in their own corner of a cage and like to play in a cage with a second ferret...
They don't need nearly the space that a monkey needs nor the amount of food...

We have 3 ferrets, and they are wonderful to have around. If you have more then 1, they can keep each other company, and they are perfectly happy being left alone in a cage. They love the human interaction, but they do not require it as a monkey would. Try a couple of ferrets, 2 of them, one female, one male.

You better check your state laws first. Lots of laws are being passed all over the country re what you can and can not keep as pets. New York just passed a law (so my pet shop owner said) that you can't even keep tadpoles here.
Exotic pets like you mention are very costly in time and money. If you plan on keeping these types of pet caged up all the while, then no...you do not want them. If you spend hours a day with them, letting them loose and giving them attention, then perhaps. But to keep these animals in a cage, IMO, is cruel. They are not fish and needs tons of attention and care.
It sounds like you have not had many pets in your lifetime. I don't know your living conditions, how much room you have, your age, how much you can spend, etc.
The question is not if they make good pets...the question is can you give them the proper care. They are not toys that you can put on the shelf when you get tired of them. They have to be a part of your daily life.

I would rather have a ferret than a monkey. Really I would rather have a dog or a cat over anything.

Monkeys will pee all over everything. monkeys will get into everything. monkeys will tear every thing up or chew it up. Monkeys must be watched 24/7. I don't know about ferrets.

A Goldfish is a very classy pet. And long before you get tired of it, it dies. Seriously Monkeys are just plain nasty and ferrets stink.

get the monkeys but only if u are experienced, it is not for starters. u sure dont want them to get inadequate care. u shouldnt get a single monkey, so if u thought of it , in my eyes it means u may forget about cappuchins and get the ferret, they are cool too.
