that's just a hard question..I think everything old school is great..in pop: Madonna, Michael J. in rock: Metallica, Nirvana, they made some great stuff in the 80's and 90's, I bet they have some of the greatest music for MY GENERATION (I don't know what's the best piece of music of all time)

I think Andrew Lloyd Webber's "The Phantom of the Opera" holds the best music of all time. "Music of the Night" specifically is what I consider the best piece of music...

On the top 500 songs of all time "Like a Rolling Stone" by Bob Dylan was number 1. Don't know who made the list.
I'm surprised nobody mentioned "Bohemian Rhapsody" by Queen.

I grew up in the 80's. As far as I'm concerned, that was the best music decade. Today's stuff has nothing on Motley Crue & Def Leppard.
