America helping other countries and not helping its own?

Question

I want to see how many others agree or disagree with me. America can send all this money to help other countries feed thier people, while our own people have the hardest time getting any help from our own contry. There are people here that are living in shacks and can barely feed thier children, yet they work there butts off to make ends meet and it saddens me to see all the money being spent on countries that breed like rats. What do you think?

Yes, This Gov't is too ready to jump for conflict yet when it comes to disaster they leave victims hanging. Look what happened w/Katrina If Gov't had been paying att. to what was happening maybe FEMA wouldn't have been ripped off $1million by people and $ wouldn't have been wasted on those damned trailors that are justsitting in Arkansas. FCKN IDIOTS!!!!

Actually, America spends almost NO money on Foreign aid. This is actually the most common misconception about the government. We are often among the top in dollar amounts, but when it comes to what PORTION that amount is of our GNP, we are almost last. In, 1958, the Central Committee of the World Council of Churches called for developed countries to spen 1% of their budget on foreign aid. That goal is currently .7%. The US contributes 0.09%, one of the lowest in the world.

In response to the second part of your question, we do help out people here. Welfare and Social Security, despite constant attempts by Conservatives to cripple them, still continue to help millions. If only we would stop shipping jobs overseas, and so many people wouldn't need them.....

Also, when you compare the WORST in American poverty (I mean central Harlem level poverty) with the impoverished in even a developed country like Mexico, let alone a really despondent country, like the Congo, you will realize that its actually pretty good here.

I agree with you. The only logic I could see is that people in this country at least have the opportunity to advance themselves and in places like Africa, they really don't. It still doesn't make much sense, though.

this country would never take care of there own because there no money in it. we are lazy,fat and sooner have someone else do our job.the U.S has nothing but educated idiots . ask our so called leader

yeah all those people in iraq are so deserving! I'm glad we helped them by getting rid of their leader, but you're right, america should help us and get replace our leaders too!
