It is possible to transport them, but most countries do not allow the import of ferrets or other members of their family. This is mainly due to rabies. Ferrets can carry the disease and therefore countries that are free from or relatively free from rabies DO NOT allow importation of any live animal from countries where rabies is endemic. The legalities and costs to import many species not already in the country, can be astronomical!! For anything more detailed, you would have to get in touch with the government department that was responsible for quarantine, and enviroment. I'm a ferret owner, but I think having meerkats would be great. especially if they lived in the wild but were used to people. You really don;t want a ferret or badger, they would do so much damage to your native animals. And they die in hot dry climates. They are cold damp climate animals. So it would be a bit like trying to keep a penguin alive, over there.

Ferrets are in the same family as meerkats and weasels...
Contrary to popular belief, ferrets are not rodents, but members of the mustelid family, which also includes weasels, badgers and otters.

Nope. Ferrets are from the family Mustelidae (weasles) and meerkats are from the family Herpestidae (mongooses).

Suricata suricattais the scientific name for Meerkats. Mustela Furo is the scientific name for ferrets. This, then, excludes them from the same family
