Actually "flun 11", tattoos are about 3000 years ago, but anyway. Most tattoo parlors are quite safe. The spread of blood born diseases through tattoos is almost unheard of in the professionalized industry. Tattoo guns are put through an autoclave. Needles are never used twice (with a few exceptions, make sure you get a fresh needle) and any tattooist worth their weight in salt will have a solid understanding of how to sanitize their station and equipment.

I'd worry most about getting a poorly done tat. You'd just need to look at the artists portfolio before having them work on you.

But really, everyone has them. They are hardly a way to stand out from the crowd. If you don't have any yet, you should really think twice about scarring up your body. I'm covered with them and I tend to have more respect for folks my age that still have a clean canvas. Be yourself. Tattoos won't help you do that.

I second West Hollywood Tattoo. I had one done there by Morgan a couple weeks ago. I met with him and told him what I was thinking of for my design, along with a few pics I had printed from the internet that were similar to what I had in mind. The day after I met with him he already had a design drawn up. It was my first tattoo and I was really nervous, but Morgan made it a great experience and the tattoo came out even better than I thought it would.

A friend of mine started a back piece with Josh earlier this month. The artwork is amazing.

Prix Body Piercing (and Tattoo) on Sunset in Hollywood is very clean and professional. Dan did my tattoo about 9 months ago and I love it. Prix was written up as the place where all the ladies from Beverly Hills go if they want a tattoo. I queried them heavily on their autoclave sterilization processes and felt that their sanitary standards were extremely high.

See Josh at West Hollywood Tattoo, 8206 Santa Monica Blvd, 323-654-8155, he's very helpful, professional, and artistic. if you have a design in mind he can draw it up for you, usually by referrals only, tell him Joe with the hawaiian tribal tat around the ankle sent you, his shop is more professional than the one's u see on hollywood blvd. a little more expensive though.

There is a really good one in Pasadena called Incognito. Every tatoo I have ever seen from there is really bright and vibrant. That is where I would go!
