She always stated that she would not say who it was about. About 2 or 3 years ago, there was some kind of contest re this and the winner spent the weekend with Carly Simon and she told them who the song was about, but that person had to sign a confidentiality agreement to never tell what they were told.

It might have been Mick Jagger also...
I think he actually sang on the song with her as I recall...

Lot's of people think she's talking about James Taylor, but she won't admit who it is. She says that the reason she won't tell is because then people will start associating with the person she wrote it about, and not who did them wrong.
