Although there is no medical evidence of it affecting the baby, you are cautioned not to use. I myself did not, I was not willing to take any chances. But I did go to a health food store and got a natural hair dye.

I talked to my Doctor and he told me over the years the are millions of women dying their hair and their babies are fine. He told me to stay in a well ventilated room. He also said I really didn't need to dye it in the first trimester though. He also warned me that the color I am use to may not be the color I get because of all the hormones. I have had 2 girls and pregnant with the 3rd baby. What chemicals get into the blood stream are cleaned up before they get to the baby. My Dr. told me to be safe about it when I did dye my hair.

The cleaning product thing I can give you a link on,

Hair Dyes
Should I avoid them? No. According to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), because very little dye is absorbed through the skin, dying your hair is "most likely safe" during pregnancy, despite what doctors in years past may have advised. That's good news for many expectant women — coloring your hair can be a great little confidence boost when everything else going on in your body feels so out of your control.

Having said that, though, very few studies have closely examined the many different kinds of hair treatments and their potential effects on a fetus. What we do know indicates that hair treatments are most likely safe.

What are the risks, if any, to my baby? None that are currently known.

What can I do about it? If you're still concerned, ask your doctor about natural, non-chemical dyes that could give you the little makeover you may need without the added worry. Also, having your hair highlighted (rather than dyed) uses far less chemicals.

I honestly think people should do more research before they answer a question. Have fun with the color and Good Luck!!!

Though the pregnant belly is the most obvious physical effect a gestating fetus has on it's mother, it's by no means the only one. The changes are evident everywhere - from the palms of the hands (which may temporarily turn a ruddy red) to the inside of the mouth (gums may swell and bleed). The hair is no exception.

Though some extra-prudent practitioners still advise their patients to stay away from hair dyes when they're expecting, studies have not lnked these products to birth defects. Apparently, so little of the chemicals in the dyes is absorbed through the skin, it's not likely that it would leave any adverse effect.

But, while you may not have to worry about the impact on your baby if you continue colouring your hair, you may have to worry about the impact on your appearance. For hormonal reasons, your hair may react differently when you're expecting - leaving you with a colour you may not have expected.

I get asked this a lot, and unfortunately there is no clear answer since there have been no scientific studies done to address the use of hair dye in pregnancy. While there is no actual evidence available that hair dye is harmful during pregnancy, many practitioners recommend not dying hair in the first trimester when the fetal organs are forming. Processes like highlighting, which don't contact the scalp (unlike hair dye), probably are fine because they don't get into the body.

I have read, actually, that any woman of childbearing age who is planning on having children, shouldn't dye their hair, because the chemicals leech in through your skin and can stay in your system for a while.

So regardless, I would suggest holding off. Or you could go to a health food store and get a henna hair dye - they're natural. I dont know if they hold color as long but at least you're not taking any risks that way.

Because hair dye is a chemical and you shouldn't use it in the first trimester. You are also not suppose to use any kind of skin treatment for spots or wrinkles. Some chemicals can be absorbed through the skin and that's not good for the developing baby. Also, some hair dyes have a very strong amonia smell and that's not good for preg woman to breath. cleaning products also

Yes you can have your hair COLORED. (you dye clothes not your hair.) The color does not affect the baby. But with the constant hormonal changes going on the out come cannot be guaranteed. We had a pregnant woman come into the place I work and she had tried to color her hair brown and it turned lime green. Your best bet if you are going to color your hair is to go to a beauty supply store and get all the advice you can from those who know. And stay away from the crap they sell in the grocery store. The contents are unstable and are usually old and will not give good results.

No you should not dye your hair if you are pregnant. The chemicals that you use are very bad for the growing baby. It is recommended that you wait until after the baby is born to dye your hair.

Mostly the hair dye isnt going to stay in your hair. All those hormones you have dont let it. It can wash right back out. It dont usually affect the baby you will jus be wastin money on the dye. Thats why you cant get perms cuz the perms dont sit becuz of your hormones. My friends a beautitian and i didnt believe her until i she dyed my hair and it rinsed right out like it was nothing. It was quite funny and sumthing to laugh bout. Jus wish i didnt waste all that money on gettin my hair done for nothing.
