Rather than your age, it depends on the size of your bust. Is there anything there for a bra to hold up? I can't figure out what a training bra is for either.

I teach child development and I can tell you that the average age a girl needs to start thinking about wearing bras (real bras that hold something up) in America is NO LONGER 13 years old (that was around 1975) but is around 11 now. Why so much younger? Because we now have better nutrition and health care than we did before. Other factors also play in... if you're a larger girl, you're more likely to need one sooner - I've heard of girls as young as 7 wearing them. You are also more likely to wear a bra at a younger age in the United States if you are black or Latino. Here's the key: do you NEED it or do you want it to fit in? There are some girls who need them at 10 and some girls who just want to feel more adult.
Here's where I get concerned as a social worker, however... I don't know if a girl or a girl's mother asked this question, but you should remember that just because you (or your child) may outwardly look more like an adult, that doesn't mean that you are ready to be doing adult things... or even "older kid" things. Be willing to stay a kid for a while longer yet. Becoming an adult will happen all too fast all on its own. Enjoy where you are at right now... and let time take care of itself.

Don't worry too much about normal. You'll find as you age that nobody is really "normal," but that just about everything to do with your body is natural and beautiful and should be viewed with respect/compassion.
I began wearing a bra at the age of 8. I chose to wear one because I was active in sports, and my breasts had grown to such a point that it was causing me pain when I ran/jumped--I needed support, something to reduce "jiggle."
At that time, most girls my age had not begun puberty and were mean about my breast size/bra, but years later, they confessed that they had just been jealous. It seemed strange to me that they were jealous, as I was the one who had to wear uncomforable underwear and had been teased. It still does.
The rate at which you physically mature is determined by a combination of your genes (inherited from your parents) and your diet/fitness. Breast size usually comes from the father's side (look at your paternal relatives to get an idea of what to expect) and the age at which you develop seems to be linked to when your mother developed (my mother began her period at 9, so me growing large breasts at 8 wasn't so strange to her).
Many factors are influencing girls like yourself today, and making them develop earlier. Substances in the public water supply, the high amount of fats/proteins today's kids eat, are just a couple of reasons why you might find yourself in full-blown puberty at age 10.
If you feel you need a bra for support or you are uncomfortable with your new shape and want to mask your body, go ahead and wear a bra.
Best wishes. You have a long life ahead of you.

My daughter is 9 and in the third grade. She cryed when they started growing and I explained it was normal. She has now adjusted to thwm and wears a bra with certain shirts. She has enough there that is noticeable and is one of the few girls in her class that has them. She is more developed but as I told her this is the first step to becoming a woman.

Apparently it is normal these days, because my 10 year old sister who has no boobs whatsoever convinced my stepmom to buy her a bra, because all the other little girls her age are doing it.

Of corse. As soon as there is developement it is important to support it with a bra. Plus, without one, the growing breast can be an imbarrassment to the youngster with them as the nipples harden with cold air, etc. It helps to make them less obvious.

Has nothing to do with age, all girls develop at different times, It should solely be based on how developed you are.
