It depends on what size and quality you are after.A legal size scanner will cost more but scan larger items.How fast do you want it to operate?A SCSI interface is more expensive but much faster if you have an open slot for the SCSI card.If you want good quality for high rez photos than don't get anything less than a 36 bit scanner.I have been using a ScanMaker X6 EL 36 bit SCSI scanner for years with no problems.Its about five times faster than the USB scanner I have and never use anymore.

Well, I guess that it depends on what you mean by decent, but I got my scanner/copier/printer for $70 and it does a really good job- It's a Lexmark.

we have a printer/scanner and my parents bought it for like $100
