I'm interested in how y'all got first turned on to the music that you're still listening to years later! The music maybe Punk, Jazz, Rock & Roll, Country, R & B, hell even Rap - Hip Hop! I'm more interested in how you got 'turned on to' it!

Ok I was in High School it was like 1968 ok that would be considered Jr. High now, but to me I was out of Elementry School! There was a guy I looked up to, he was the epitome of cool! He had dropped out of school, smoked cigarettes, but most of all he had a car! Everybody called it "the Pig-Pen," hey don't ask! He-he! At 2:45 he'd come behind the school to see his girl/friend and drive her home! Some times she had to stay after school or he'd come back & give me a ride home! He also had an 8-track tape player and a box of tapes. One day OTW home he had The Rolling Stone's tape in, and they were doing, I believe, "I Just Wanna Make Love to You," I was listening to the words and smoking one of his cigarettes and said, "Damn, Jagger can sure write huh?" Well, 'Booty,' that was a fairly popular name in those days for a guy and no it didn't mean his asz! LOL said, "That wasn't Jagger that was McKinly Morganfeld!" Before either of us knew of Willie Dixon. Of course I said, "Huh?" He laughed and said "Muddy Waters" well that wasn't any help to this 14 yr old. Seeing my confussion he reached in the back, pulled out a Muddy Waters LP and gave it to me! I took that home & litterally wore grooves in the vinyl! I can't remember what LP it was but it had "Hoochie Coochie Man, Got My Mojo Working" and "Rollin' Stone" on it! That was my turn on to the Blues!

Even though you said not for teens o frickin well!I do not listen to all that horrible music they play today booming out of stereos. I was influenced by my dad a ton but my fav kind of music is punk rock. The ramones are like my role models. I mean they were just a bunch of high-schoolers who decided they wantedto start a band they bought a few guitars and started to practice and write songs in joeys moms art studio. Slowly they wbecame world famous. Come on that rocks i wish i could only just start up a band like that but no i am just stuck here listen to old Black sabbath records in my basement. love the old stuff but my new craze is reall some older heavy metal because of what they sing about it is more complex than screaming i can say that!!!!

When it comes to music, my Dad listened to Jazz and Classical music (which I didn't dig at the time, but I do now), and I asked for a record player and some Rock and Roll albums. I got one of those fold down types with one speaker in it, but that was pretty cool at the time. My first Rock album was a Deep Purple 45 with Kentucky Woman on one side, but I honestly don't remember what was on the other side. I too played that album until it wasn't playable anymore. After that I was stuck playing my Dad's Johnny Cash records, which was as close to Rock as I could find in his collection, and my favorite was "A boy named Sue". I still love that song. I guess that was about '67 or '68 for me also, and I was 10 years old. Thanks man, and have a great night.

I grew up listening to all kinds of music and to this day I am stuck in the 70's. I was just a kid in the 70's but that is definitely my decade... I don't know why but it just does it for me... I really enjoy 50's and 60's alot as well.

It makes me happy..
