I recently found shopping for clothes very frustrating. Limited Too used to carry a lot of 16slim bottoms and never carried 1/2 size (which is plus size) bottoms. Since they started carrying 1/2 size bottoms, slim sizes became very hard to find! I recently went to express to purchase a pair of dress pants. I couldn't believe that a size 0 was still loose on me! and most of the sizes I saw in express was a size 12! I may a little bit slim but I don't think I am skinny (for an asian girl). I am 18, 5'4'' and 97lbs. In asia, I usually wear a small or medium in womens clothing. In usa, a small is usually too big for me. I often have to shop at the kids section to find clothes that fit me well.

For those who think I don't eat, I do eat a lot and mostly junk food. I eat mcdonalds at least 3x a week. I often eat right before I sleep and I don't exercise. I forgot, what is even more frustrating than clothes is actually bras. 32A is big on me... especially on the cup! Are the bras becoming bigger too?!

The simple answer is that the average women's size is now 12-14 depending on your area. The plus size area is expanding or appears to be, because it is a market that has been under served for so long. I have been a retail manager for 10 years and have seen the shift in sizes in that small time. Another issue is that many retailers have begun vanity sizing with sizes getting bigger but carrying a smaller size. I have seen many customers that will not even try on a size 8 but if they go to Ann Taylor, a location that is "generously" sized they will wear a 4 and feel so happy about being a 4 despite both items having the exact same measurements.

So many plus size Americans :)

I'm not as small as you, but it's frustrating I know, size inflation has gotten really bad over the past couple of years. Most people of European descent just have a larger bone structure to begin with. I am slim for an American but when I went shopping in Japan I had to buy sleeveless tops b/c of my big American shoulders (I wear a S/M T-shirt here), got laughed at when I asked a vendor if he had shoes in my size (I'm a 10) and didn't even bother looking at pants since I have a 34" inseam! Best of luck...kids clothes are usually cheaper!

And to you disgruntled plus-size American women, leave her alone!

Asians have the concept of "portion size" and "eating healthy food" down! This is why they are slim, it's not magic. I'm really, really sick of hearing people complain that it's OK to be overweight. If you truly eat food that is good for you, exercise, and are still overweight, you're probably healthier than a lot of slender people. However, everyone else being overweight is no excuse not to take care of yourself or attempt to live a healthy lifestyle, and overweight is not healthy!

to be 18 and that height and weigh only 97 pounds, no wonder you can't fin anything! Girl you are too small. But I hope that's just the way your body is made. Alot of clothing companies are realizing that everyone isn't small so they need to make clothing for bigger people. Nothing is wrong with that. Just get over it and shop around. I suggest you gain some weight cause you are too small for your age and height. At least get to 110.

I don't know what you mean by 'suddenly'...Americans have been getting fatter for a while. Do you not shop in this country very often (since you referenced USA small as too big) ?

As far as your size, by most standards you would be on the bit too thin side, but as long as you're healthy that is what matters most.

Lol....now, see...another big girl would have gotten mad at ya, but I'ma try and hear ya out.

Open up your eyes sweetheart. This isn't Asia...the people carry just a TAD bit more weight, on average. If you think about it logically...since 1 in 3 adults in this nation are overweight....they'd be making more money if they made clothes for more plus sized people. It's all about income.

As for you....keep on shopping in the kids secion. Or eat a cheesburger....things aint gonna change. And stop complaining, things could be a lot worse.

It's true...over 60% of Americans are obese. It's a little insulting, though, that you consider 12 a plus size.

I wish I could feel sympathy-but I can't!! Not everyone is the size of a twig, its about time stores had clothes to fit everyone. don't be mad at the kid's section-their clothes are usually cheaper.
