Greenland (Greenlandic: Kalaallit Nunaat, meaning "the humans' land"; Danish: Grønland, meaning "Greenland") is a self-governed Danish territory. Though both geographically and ethnically it is an Arctic island nation located on the continent of North America, politically and historically, Greenland is closely associated with Europe.

Greenland is part of the North American plate, which you can see on any map that shows the Continental shelf (the extension of the continent under the sea).

However, Greenland is politically part of Europe, since it is governed by Denmark.

It's neither. It's an island. It does share the North American plate, but it has no contact to the mainland. Greenland is a territory of Denmark, which is in Europe.

Every map I have ever seen has shown Greenland as part of North America, even though it's under Danish control. Curiously, Iceland is considered a part of Europe, even though it's almost as close to North America as it is to Europe.
