Being a Military Industrial setup with constant preasure from arms makers and others who benefit from the war the the U.S.has been fighting little and big wars at regular intervals of appox .ten years since world war 2.A lot has changed in the world since ww2 due to changing times education and comminication.

Of course it could. However I don't think that will ever happen. War is too convenient. War is a remarkable catalyst for redistribution of funds. A select few in the grand scheme benefit. War does not help the starving children. It does however help the munition mfg. and makers of war implements. War helps lobbyist and the organizations they lobby for. It also helps political enities who are not above a little ill gotten gold.

Had the best economy in years with Clinton. When he left office we had no National Deficit. There Was a surplus. The war is costing 6 billion a month. Much of it going to a selected few.
For Gods sake, we are borrowing money from China! We will be in debt for generations.
I be darned if I can see any improvement for the last 6 years.

Some else answered , Yes, and referred to Japan..Hey, they don't have to pay for military protection. We pay for it! They have no army. What the they do have is a thriving economy and are so technically advanced it will take decades for us to catch up with them.

Yes, and prosper. look at Japan, who lets the US defend it's interests around the globe. That frees up lots of capital for economic growth. The question is, could the free world survive without America bearing the burden of their continued safety?

For a period of time it can, but when a recession rears it's ugly head America turns to wars to jumpstart the economy.

yes I think it could, our economy is remarkably versatile and strong. it is larger than all of europe put together. The war is actually a drain on our economy more than anything else

we can survive in any kind of condition. War makes our technology grow faster, which in turn help our economy. Without war technology will advance slowly.

i think it'd be doing a lot better, because the world would be a more stable place and we'd have more outlets for our more productive goods and services.
