The difference between consecutive squares equals the sum of the square roots. To express numerically:

122*122 - 121*121 = 122 + 121 = 243

(x+1)^2 - x^2 where x is 121

= 2x + 1 = 243

Someone have a calculator? Geez, I used to be real smart.
Seriously, we used to have to solve these things rather than just calculate. With fast computers and cheap calculators, it's become a lost art. That and walking five miles uphill to school. And back.

This problem has been done in many ways. The one u have said is the simplest. The basic method is to square the nos. and then substract them.
Considering the eqn as (x+1)^2 -x^2 is just another way of writting x^2=(x+1)^2-(x-1)^2.(The variables are defined differently)
Like this, u can also write it as x^2-(x-1)^2
