Yes, if you're a baseball pitcher. Then you can face first base and not have to look over your shoulder to see it, like the right handed pitchers.

Well, there isn't really a huge advantage or difference in regards to rightys vs. leftys. But, one advantage I can think of is that since left handedness isn't very common and so, there is a small but elite group of left-handed famous people you can join someday if you work hard and do something worth talking about. People on this list include Prince William, Bill Clinton, Nelson Rockefeller, Julius Caesar, Napoleon Bonaparte, John Dillinger, Ossama Bin Ladden, Leonardo Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Mark Twain, Eudora Welty, 50 Cent, Eminem, Faith Hill, Jimi Hendrix, Tom Cruise, Robert Dinero, and the list goes on! Check out the website below.

Then again, as many lefties might point out, being left-handed can also offer intellectual prowess. Tests conducted by Alan Searleman from St Lawrence University in New York found there were more left-handed people with IQs over 140 than right-handed people. Famous left-handed thinkers in history from Albert Einstein to Isaac Newton to Benjamin Franklin seem to underline the point.

There certainly is. If a right-hander ever played a left-hander in tennis, ping-pong, baseball, (and other sports), the lefty had an advantage. (See note below) Both types played predominantly against "rightys". But when the righty played a lefty, the righty's customary habits and experience were all backward, but to the lefty it was customary. However, when two leftys played against each other, they were both confused, with the more experienced one at an advantage.

NOTE: the last estimate I read was that about 12% of people were lefties.

Well there are pluses and minuses to being a lefty. We live in a right handed world...and always have adjust our left handed inclinations. I remember being confused a lot as a little girl.

The plus side is.... there are a disproportionate number of left handed presidents, and people who work in creative endeavors... our brains function differently.

My son is left handed and I havn't seen any benifits for him or against him. But this means he can't pass his ball glove on to his sister and he does have a hard time using scissors that aren't meant for left handed people. He even has a hard time with the scissors made for right and left handed people. We also have a hard time finding fishing poles for him. He has learned to use his pole upside down. He adjusts well he doesn't even notice anything but the scissors.

Being left handed usually means that the right hemisphere of your brain is more dominant that your left. This is called being right brained. Typically, right brained people are more imaginative and creative than left-brained folks who tend to be critical and anlaytical.

There is a lot of evidence to support this including the fact that a larger percentage of photographers, artisits, musicians, poets, composers, etc. are left handed!

basically, in a right handed world, its good to be left-handed if it catches everyone off guard, especially with sports.

in volleyball you can be an amazing opposite, in basketball you can drive more to the left, figthing would throw off the opponent, you confuse the opponent in racket sports cuz backhand becomes forehand (ping pong, tennis, badminton), make the pitcher change the way he throws in baseball, etc....

also, the left hand being your main one shows that the right side of your brain is stronger, thus it also means that you are better at things the right side of the brain is in charge of. i think artistic ability might be one of them.
