Yes, you can get a UTI from doing it too hard and/or too much. Especially if you don't do it that often. The infection occurs when the man's penis moves bacteria from around the anus to inside the urinary tract. Sorry if that's too much detail..

Actually, you cannot "get" a UTI from sex, but you can irritate your whole genital area -- including your urethra -- by having sex alot, or very (um) enthusiastically. Cranberry juice does seem to help (the theory is that it is so acidic that it inhibits bacterial growth) but the person above is right; peeing after sex is the most effective way to prevent this problem. It clears the urethra.
One thing that you should know is that if you do have a UTI you do not have to live with that horrible feeling of having to pee constantly. Ask your health care provider to give you a prescription for Pyridium, which numbs your urinary tract a bit. (Warning: it will turn your pee BRIGHT orange!)

You can get a UTI from doing it anytime. The action of sex, sometimes can force bacteria up into a woman's urethra (since it is right above the vaginal opening) So the best prevention is... go pee right after sex, it will flush the bacteria out!
Also a good practice is to make sure you both are clean before the act (shower before) :) But always pee after!
As a precaution drink cranberry juice (good for a woman's health also). The pee rule is #1 for preventing, because UTI's are miserable, and ever since I learned it, never happened again!
PS, if you ever have miserable burning pee, see your doctor immediately! If you let any form of infection go, it could go into your bladder, and then your kidneys and you could die. Seriously.
Hope this helps!

No, you cannot get a UTI from doing it too hard. That has nothing to do with a UTI. People get UTI from bacteria during sex that may get into the urethra, not showering, or not drinking enough water.
