I would not be surprised if some other Six Flags locations close down. Mark Shapiro was just in Atlanta last week and he was impressed with Six Flags over GA, even though they just opened a mega coaster (Goliath) earlier this year. Because there is an entire kiddie land section plus some of the other rides such as the mine train kids around 5 or so can ride them as well.

Mr. Shapiro wants Six Flags to be more family oriented and places like Magic Mountain in Valencia is not family friendly. I went there last summer and as a roller coaster lover I had a blast but if I were to take my neice there (she's only 3) there would be nothing for her to do....

Personally I think that he is trying to have Six Flags compete with Disney......having family friendly rides, having a daily parade through the center of the park....does this sound familiar??

Just my opinion...

Last year Six Flags closed AstroWorld in Houston, but aside from the Waterworld water park in Sacramento, CA they haven't announced the closure of any more parks.

What you've heard about is the announcement made during an investor call on Thursday. Six Flags announced that they looking at possibly selling six more properties and that may include closing the parks to sell them for real estate. The locations in question are Six Flags Darien Lake, Six Flags Magic Mountain, Six Flags Elitch Gardens, Waterworld (Concord, CA), Wild Waves & Enchanted Village (Federal Way, WA) and the water park in Houston.

The parks that are potentially in danager of closing should they decide to sell are Magic Mountain (Los Angeles, CA) and Elitch Gardens (Denver, CO).

nope it is true the owner of six flags is getting out of the business. Six Flags Darien Lake in upstate New York went on the market today:(

The company also named five other parks it may sell. They are in or near Buffalo, Denver, Seattle, Houston and Concord, Calif.

The article I read is that they may sell some of their locations. Share prices have dropped so that is part of the reason. Other reasons are that some of the areas are more valuable for other reasons.
