I wondered that about my ex husband for years as he is more like a 2 year old than a 51 year old!! lol But, my fiance, who is 54, does NOT throw fits when he doesn't get his way. We just talk it out until we are both satisfied.

They like be in control of every situation, so when they don't get their way, it is a form of not being in control. If they had learned anything as little boys, it would be that tantrums only bring the wrong kind of attention.
