Polyps are small growths that can manifest in different areas of the human body. My bald, fat ex-husband has nasal polyps. Snicker.

Not quite, but close. Singers, it seems, are prone to polyps on their vocal cords.
A polyp is a kind of soft lump of flesh that might form in an area that has been subject to a great deal of constant irritation. Sometimes they can be indicators of cancer, but sometimes, too, they are benign and just indicate that the patient needs to rest a while.

It's when you develop "polyps" in your colon...usually is indicative of cancer cells developing, but can be treated if caught early on.
