i look around and see all of the cubans joining and celebrating each other,
the jews, respectivley, hispanics, all of these different ethnicities and peoples.
but when it comes to afro-americans, we can't seem to come together, or at least not on anything that matters and will further our advancement as a PEOPLE, not a single PERSON.
why is this?
its like we deny our blackness, and want so much to be something or someoone we were not intended to be.
what do yall think?

i'd heard of the speech, but never really found it.
it made me sick to my stomach.
i've yet to read something this stupid in my life.
i can only hope that this person, before he died, prayed for forgiveness from God.

You should have known you would not get a straight answer on this topic. In fact, as you can see it just attracts racists and smartasses and people who just don't get it.

The answer to your question is complicated but i will start by pointing out the obvious. The other groups you mentioned came voluntarily and have a stronger sense of identity. We did not come here as "Yoruba tribesman" or Nigerians, etc. We came stripped of everything except the obvious color of our skin. The provceeded to live here for hundreds of years with no real family structure or sense of history except for that as ex slaves. The african groups that come here as immigrants have a similar "unity" as any other immigrant group.

This brings us to the second part of my answer, sdince we cannot accurately be compared to other immigrant groups, it leaves us in the odd position of being "american" and holding american values. Yes, there are some differences betewen white americans and black, but despite these surface things, we have a lot more in common with our white neighbors than with any immigrant group in the neighborhood. The unity of immigrant groups is often out of necessity of being an alien in a new land seeking some familiarity. that familiarity is already there for african american since the US is all we know.

America is a land of great individual achievement. You cannot attach an immigrant mentality t a native. even among the groups you named, often the unity begins to disapear wit heach generation that is born her.

I'm sorry if this sounds weird, but the african american race has made so much progress in becoming equals in the American community, why do you feel that you still have to have something to seperate yourselves?
