I'm barely 5'9", about 212 (but somewhat muscular). I know my frame does not give me much leverage in terms of velocity. Are there any excercises that I can do to increase the speed of my throws? When I play pitching games at carnivals, I find it quite embarassing that I manage to only hit about 65-73 mph according to those radars. And that's the speed of my "fastball". I feel as if I'm putting everything into my throw, with little result. Could the radar be wrong? Am I just weak? Lol.... Billy Wagner is about the same height as me, but he throws fireballs. Can anyone help?

Roger Clemens works on his legs a lot. If you're throwing that lightly you need to work on your legs.

WHen you're pitching you maybe thinking, "I'm hardly using my legs at all".

But when Clemens pitches, he says his legs are "burning from the workout".

If you can add 10-20 MPH just from leg pushoff.

You'll be throwing 83-93 in no time.

Its cool. first the fastest pitch u can throw is the four-seam FB i am sure u noe the right grip. Here what u do play long toss a lot of long toss. I was a SS in HS but i had a pussy arm. I had little or no arm strength . and this helped remember to start off slow.

Well velocity is pretty simplistic. Work you on your upper body and calves. Your chest leads your body when pitching and the legs (mostly from calves and thighs) will push off hard. The arm is more like a slingshot. Also, try a Dontrelle Willis-style windup (without the leg kick) you wind-up with lots of momentum creating more velocity on your pitch.

just as a DYK, Billy Wagner threw righty until he broke his right arm when he was a kid ...Mechanics, throwing a lot and strength will improve your velocity, BUT you're either born with a cannon or you're not...All of the work in the world and it's unlikely you're going to be the second coming of Bob Feller...

adding a swift bend to the end of your motion while your following threw will give you a slight faster pitch to the plate when your arm is extending towards home pull ur body in and towards the ground
