That sounds like a dream to me! We live in an area where the median home price is $525,000.00! And that's for a two -three bedroom ranch or cape-cod style house from the 1960's. It takes over 2-3 thousand to keep this house going - and that's without phone, internet, cable TV, etc. The heating bills alone run over $300 a month some months. (we're in the lower Hudson River Valley, about 30 miles northwest of New York City)

I can live on $600 a month but not everyone can do that. A couple could live on $1500 a month very comfortably depending on what they call comfortable. If you mean never having to work for one outside the home, it still depends on what they would call comfortable. IF you make enough to afford a house for $300,000, are you looking for a mate? I will be glad to take the job. In reality, a lot depends on what the two call comfortable and what they really want, lifestyle, etc. What I could call good and what you would call good, may be two totally different things.

"Comfortable" is relative and subjective. I can be comfy on less than I might want, or compromise to achieve comfort.
If comfort has little to do with anything but a price of a home, then I'd be depressed all the time.

Admittedly the housing market went out of control, but life in general is about so much more.

Define comfort, define what you need to SURVIVE/EXIST, and budget your life around that,,,and possibly be happy when the "Play Money" is enough to add Chocolate syrup to the Vanilla Ice Cream.,,,,,,That was a metaphor, by the way.

I am glad I do not live in your neighborhood! Housing here ranges from 59,000 to 275,000, depending on how "luxurious" you want your housing to be, or how large. A normal 3 bedroom home with yard, small pool, garage, would run about 109,000, if it is in a "nice" part of town. House payments run about 600 t0 800 a month on this amount. If two people make at least twice as much as your house payment/rent, you should survive, but triple the amount would allow the "comfort" you are looking for.

that is way too much. create a budget of first what you need each week, food, electricity, transport and accomodation ( rent or mortgage repayment). Then any extras can increase your comfort. Remember you really don't need much. 2 people only need really a two bedroom place. It doesn't need to be huge because you can always go outside for a walk.
