Katybear -- This sudden reddening of the face (or other body parts) that occurs spontaneously or in response to stressful stimuli or deep emotions is medically called erythrophobia. Most people refer to it as "facial blushing."

It is cause by over activity of the sympathetic nervous system. It is not something that can usually be consciously controlled. Your face can turn red in an instant (due to the dilation of blood capillaries near the surface of the skin) but it can take some time to fade back to "normal."

This condition is usually considered as pass through genetic heredity. It is usually not cause for alarm. If you believe that it is interfering with your day to day activities, seek professional help, but generally just know that this is normal for some people and considered a "beautiful trait" by some.

Lots of people have this, it is very common and nothing to worry about. It is the result of the blood pressure going up. Maybe if you have high blood pressure, you should see a doctor. There are free blood pressure checkers at most pharmacies.

Hey Katy-
Are you very fair? If so, that is just our cross to bear. Learn to make jokes about it and take it in stride; some folks even think it's cute that it happens!! Good Luck!!
