Hello Liana
Here is what you can do.
1) Check state laws to see how where you live governs where, when, how and what you can work at.
1) Use the 5 w's and the H.
Who
What
Where
When
Why
How.
To answer what you want to do.
ook
2) When you have decided on what - look at doing a CBA
Cost Benenfit Analysis - does it make sense to do what you are going to do? Can you reach your goal?
3) Once you have answered "YES!" then do a SWOT analysis -
Strenghts, Weaknesses,Opportunities and Threats.
For example for grass cutting a threat would be either a drought or a flood - both affect the rate at which grass grows and if you need to work.
Once you have done the academic study - can take as little as a day to do this ~ see if you can get a grant from the government for small businesses / summer businesses for youth. See if the idea can grow with oyu throught the school year - not just summer break. How cool would it be if you could provide employment for fellow students? Of courses that raises a whole host of issues but it can be fun and has been done in the past - look at the founders of GOGGLE - all students at Stamford.
You are asking for seed money - money that will provide the seed for the business - a lawn mower / cell phone/PDA for a grass cutting business, a cell phone / PDA for a pet walking business. You get the idea.
Also remember to:
1) PAY YOURSELF FIRST. Take your first paycheque and bank 20% of it and every pay cheque for the rest of your life as savings. Retirement savings will be there for you so will college money and you will learn to live within your means. NEVER TOUCH this money unless of dire emergency - not it is a fashion emergency - but losing job emergency, got to have surgery emergency.
2) NEVER - EVER - EVER loan money to family / friends. If they need a loan, say over $100 set terms, negotiate a payment plan and be prepared to pursue the money. Chances are once they find out your terms they will not be willing to borrow the money because they know they will never be able to pay it back. Do not be taken advantage of, you are not a door mat.
3) Enjoy yourself. Going into work for yourself can be fun and exciting.

It depends on where you live. If it's in a farming area, and you're willing to do "grunt" work, you can probably get something. Most other places have age requirements. Also, your hours will be limited. Your best bet is to have friends who have parents who work in safe environments (offices for example) who are looking for part-time help in something easy -- like filing or basic typing. There are so many people looking for jobs who are older had sometimes have families to support, that just going out looking at your age is difficult. You need people who know people. Perhaps your parents or their friends can help. It's called networking, and the earlier you learn how to do it, the easier and more rewarding your life will be. And, by the way, goooooood luck.

If you have any amuesment parks in your area you should check those out. Six Flags is a great company to work for if there is one close by. I don't remember how old you have to be to work there, but I know it's a great summer job for teens!

i agree with itsyourownfault. cutting grass is a great way to make money. you get better than minimum wage for it too!
seriously, you can do a typical yard for $15 and it'll take you less than an hour.
