The idea of communism itself is not bad. It fundamentally seeks to create equality for everyone. Were true communism implemented for anything else besides humans, it would work quite well. It is the human nature of greed that destroys all communistic ideologies.

The communists countries that exist today (as well as in the past) don't stand a chance because it is essentially impossible for everyone to be equal. Inequalities exist as a rule in human hierarchy.

The hate (I'd rather refer to it as fear) that Americans have for communism stems from the things we've witnessed communism can do. Russia, China, Vietnam, Cuba, and the list goes on.

A democratic nation would therefore be more desireable than a communistic one, since it acknowledges this hierarchy but also allows room for change. Another good point about it is that a capitalist economy can be supported, which is definitely good for the consumer since companies have to provide quality to survive in such a market.

A true democracy would be like utopia, too, just like communism. But the U.S. also does not have a true democracy. If we did, the electoral college wouldn't exist.

Well, I'm not too keen on either govt, and I can only speculate as to why our govt doesn't like it. First, there was fear of a take-over(cold war), now I just think we don't like anything that isn't democratic like us. Communism is good in theory, so is democracy. In communism, EVERYTHING's supposed to be divided EQUALLY amoung EVERYONE, and that's not happening...the rich get everything, and certainly all the good stuff from the land and other govts etc. It's the same in democracy. Besides, we're democratic, but arent' really free, I can't go and tell the president what I think, I'll be escorted off the premises if I call him a Jack***. I can send him a letter which will never be read though...can't do that in a communist nation. But u do gotta wonder, in those commie countries where they don't particularly like their people getting educated, they're the smart ones, and in this country where we encourage it, we're not so smart comparitively. why not?

Was it Churchill who said that Democracy is the worst form of government except for everything else that's been tried?
True democracy is one person-one vote, and everyone has access to the podium. Populations have been too big for that for centuries. We are a representative republic. Good points are the freedom to excel, benefit from the fruits of your own labor, and speak your mind, etc. Bad points could be majority rule, and that it is premised on working best in what I believe Hamilton called a "moral population". That is one in which people are self regulating to some extent.

Communism is practiced by many smaller groups inside of democracies. As a practical rule, human nature rules out it ever succeeding in it's pure form. There is no individual motivation, no competition, and if we are all equal, who is going to be "superior" and watch over us to insure that equality is maintained?

I think that what Americans really hate are all the other pseudo-socialist movements that masquerade as Communist. It is an umbrella phrase for various forms of despotism. In most communist countries, no one can do just about anything they **** like.

I can only think of two groups of Americans who would advocate Communism here; the disaffected, who may not understand it's realities, and the elitists who feel it is their group's birthright to lead those of us not "intelligent" enough to manage for ourselves.

No, Americans didn't HAVE to hate communists. Americans don't HAVE to do anything.

Good points of a communist nation: You'll get a meager apartment, meager medical care and meager safety, GUARANTEED.

Bad points: But you won't be allowed to complain about it and you can be sent to psychiatrists for "reprogamming".

Good points of a democratic nation: You can get a GREAT apartment, EXCELLENT medical care and somewhat decent safety, IF you bust your a$$ and work hard enough for it. And you can complain if you don't succeed.

Bad points: If you're insured and a judge thinks you need some "help", the psychatrists can incarcerate you and "treat" you involuntarily - but only until your insurance runs out.

In this democratic Nation Communists have the same freedoms as we do. the Commune Idea lives here in the Quakers and Amish. and to some degree with the Mormons.

It is just the opposite of capitalism. Communism is based Marxismn which is the idea that everyone is equal and pulls their own weight in the society. America is anti-communism because of the theory for southeast Asia that communism can and will spread throughout a region of the world. America is anti anything that is the opposite of what the country is founded on.

well... America took the dictatorships of Stalin, China, N. Korea and many more and used their own labeling of "communism" against them... basically, if you ask the common America what a dictatorship is and what communism is... you're going to get the same answers... so it clearly wasn't communism...

The idea was demonized by those that abused the idea in the second half of the 20th century and will have a difficult time making a comeback for a few generations...

Communism is:
An economic or political system based on the sharing of all work and property by the whole community.

Its government 'for the people, by the people'.

Oops, that sounds familiar

Americans are taught to hate communism because it threatens our current economic/corporate structure. Despite of this, most Americans probably couldn't tell you what communism is exactly.

Communism, in theory, is the perfect government. If it is treated the way it's supposed to, it will lead to utopia, where everyone will be happy, healthy, and perfectly well treated.

Unfortunately, it always leads to dictatorship, or everyone becomes so insanely selfish, that it never works.
