I just cut down several pokeweed plants that were growing on our property. Is it o.k. to burn these? I know they are poisonous....If not burn how should I dispose?

I just toss them in my compost pile & let them rot with the rest of the organic matter.

I don't see why you couldn't burn them. The poison is very mild and you have to eat them for it to hurt you. In fact the plant is used to make some medicines.

The poison isn't going to be in the smoke.

Strictly speaking, the the roots, flowers, berries, summer and fall plants are toxic, but the young stems and leaves are actually edible and nutritious .

Would you believe that young poke is sold fresh during the spring in gourmet stores and farmers markets, as well as canned in many parts of the US?

You could try digging them out by the roots if you really don't want them - or just harvest and sell them when they re-appear next spring.

Link below has some good info - and recipes.

Until then, just compost them, as everyone else has suggested.
