I guess it would depend on what media you were using to install the software. I suppose you could download something from the internet. But if you only have like, say, a floppy drive or something, you're going to have to bust it down to like, Windows 3.1 or Windows NT or something which uses a series of floppies to install. Otherwise, you could try to find yourself an external CD-Rom Drive, and work it like that. You could also connect it to another PC which could install it onto your ancient LT.

Good luck.

You can add the CDROM drive, by swapping out the floppy.

www.ebay.com search : gateway 2550 cdrom

About $15 including shipping.

Or you can do it the very hard way, and remove the laptop HD, and install it in your full sized PC. Connect it to your secondary HD controller on the mother board. Probably just pull the cable from your PC cdrom drive and connect to the laptop hard disk.
You will need a special adapter to convert from the small hard drive to the standard HD cable system. You can get one of these at local electronics stores such as Frys, or EBAY.
www.ebay.com search: ide laptop adapter, ~ $5 - $8.
You dont need to set any jumpers on the HD, because it will be the only device on the secondary cable.
What a pain though, you will need to copy the operating system disk over the the hard disk, transfer it back to the laptop, then install. And you will need a lot of files to get it up and running, like motherboard drivers, video drivers, windows installer files, they are probably zipped, so you need unzip software etc.
Ive done it, but it is painful. Get a flash drive, and get that installed as soon as possible so transferring files for internet etc will be less painful. The best way is to spend $15, and buy the cdrom drive from ebay.

May the force be with you.
