Need help and advice for a family member that is a "compulsive" saver or Pack rat..doesn't want to throw any thing away. Has run out of room to save stuff in. Dr/ Phil had a program on his TV show on 6/21/06..I want to find that. Help me to find it.

This can be addressed with medication and therapy. Please contact your local mental health facility for advice. Before you sic the health department on your family member or start pitching stuff out behind their back, please at least do this. If you just take over and do things for them, it takes away all their control, and they literally may never speak to you again. If you care about them, get them some help but be compassionate.

You need to find out when they will be away from their place, on vacation, or at work. If this is a family member you should be able to gain access to their space. Simply get some friends with trucks, and some thick black plastic bags, and clean their space out while they are gone. Yes they will be sore for a bit, but you will all get over it, and be happy soon. Good rule of thumb, if the person has not used an item for more than one year, and the item is worth less than $50 brand new, throw it out.

just get on line to Dr. Phil, or get this person to go away for the weekend, and go in and clean house!

I can't help you find the episode, but I can give you advise. Just set his/her room on fire and s/he won't have a mess anymore.
End of Story.

The solution to the problem is simple. They just need to get a bigger place to live.
