He either puts off, so they never get done, or I hire someone to do them, then he is all mad because I spent money on someone to come to our house to do the work, he just wont do. He acts like he caught me sleeping with the mail man, because I hire someone. Now what? The stuff has to be done for christ sake!

Something like that is hard to answer. Its actually between the two of you to work out. Whatever any of us say or reccomend is intereferring. The chores or whatever do need done I realize and if your husband wont do them then I dont see a problem with you hiring outside help. He is probably feeling inadequate at this point and will argue that he would have done them chores etc. when he had the time. Blah blah blah. I can picture the conversation. I bet from now on though he will put forth a better attempt at helping out around the house. Maybe this was a good thing to do in order to get his attention. Just dont back down and do keep your ground so it dont happen again. I am sure it will be a subject of matter for a long time to come.

Ahh, it's nice to find out I'm not alone in the world. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.
The male time frame seems to be alot longer than ours. Things can stay in a state of disrepair for what seems like eons to us, but only "a couple of weeks" to them.
I say stick to your guns. If you can' t do it yourself and he has exceeded his expected "fix-it" date, then do go ahead and hire someone. It's better than getting used to each and every mess and turning a blind eye, or you start staying away from home so you don't have to look at it.

tell him that you understand that he is too busy working to keep the family together, but these things need to be done and you can't do it. Tell him you would rather see him relaxing when he does have free time. This works on me all the time.

Tell him that you will continue hiring someone until he gets ready to do it himself. I wish you luck.
