well that depeds on what you drop. they did a study on the show mythbusters that there really is no 5 or 3 second rule they proved that the time actually has nothing to do with how much bacteria it will gather. it's where it is dropped, your bathroom toilet seat if cleaned monthly will most likely have a less amount of bacteria then any floor in your house. and it also matters if w/e u dropped is wet or dry, obviously something wet will pick up more bacteria, so if u dropped something dry on a not so bad floor u could prolly leave it there for an hour or so and it's gunna have almost the same amount of bacteria as it did b4.

I work in restaurants as a chef and the 3 second rule is a joke. Food is picked up from the floor and used all the time. Nothing is wasted in restaurants. That's the honest truth. Food nowadays is too expensive to waste. Just wipe it off and use it. The cooking heat will kill off any germs there are. If its something that doesn't have to be cooked, our body's immune system will fight off the germs. Just think, if you buy a $8.00 piece of meat at the supermarket and you drop it on the floor before you cook it, are you giong to throw it away?

it depends on what you dropped. but i don't believe in 5, 3, or 2-second rule, anything you dropped could gather bacteria(it also depends if you have the cleanest floor, cleaner than a microprocessor laboratory)lol

I'm totally in agreement with the previous answers I think it depends what it is, I thought it was five seconds and it depends how clean the floor is.

Depends on what was dropped. If it was chocolate, it's a 2 minute rule. :-)
