were would i find an administrator password , my sons let the activation date run out on his laptop its asking for admin passwords can anybody help

there a number of linux boot disk utilites that let you reset windows passwords for example:

http://home.eunet.no/~pnordahl/ntpasswd/

will do it. they are a bit involved for a novice but well documented as to what you need to do.

If it's an administrator password, your son would have to tell you, because he would have been the one to set it. But your saying he never activated his windows xp software, which would lead me to believe, that it's asking for the product key. Which can be found on the bottom of his computer, it would be on a sticker, but that would only be if windows xp was installed on the computer when you bought it.

If windows xp was bough sepertly, then you would have to look at the box that the CD came in.

Hope this Helps... start the computer and press F8 Repeatedly untill a new screen comes up... then choose start in SAFE mode.. when computer starts, you can go into USER accounts.. And Remove ALL the Passwords.. RESTART and let it start normally... it will be fine.. Good Luck...

Boot the system using any Boot CD.

Navigate to the folder

C:\windows\system32\config

Delete SAM.log file...

Restart the system.

who every installed the os has the password if they don't remember it you have to reinstall os
