I have a friend that is going to be divorcing his spouse and is almost certain he will owe her some alimony. He wants to know if there is a state that will not enforce the judgement of NC.

For instance, if he moves out of state, where can he go that he will be able to not pay the alimony and not be incarcerated for doing so?

Also, what will happen to him if he stays in NC and does not pay the alimony?

All states will enforce the judicial rulings of other states.

If he stays in NC and refuses to pay he will be put in jail.

No. You have to pay. If you stay in the US you have to pay no way out. If his spouse gets remarried then alimony stops. So if he is still friends with friends of hers, get them to set her up with a guy. If you dont pay alimony the court will go after you and possible put him in jail.

What a scummy guy - he will move to any state just to get out of paying alimony? That's some good company you keep...

What a dead beet. What is with men. The Law is the law. What other laws does your friend not want to obey?

Do we only obey laws that we like?
I hear this from the right a lot. when A law is not to their liking they cry like children. Drinking and driving is another one men don't like. Until some one is dead.
We are a country of laws. Obeying them is one of the things that makes this a Great Place to Live.

well tell your boss to lower you income, tell him to pay you secretly, if the payee spouse has a higher income than you than, you can stop paying him/her.
