The floor or,enclosed computer cabinet is the WORST two places a computer can be setting...also,a computer needs the cover removed and dust cleaned from inside of them at least once a year.

I have repaired computers of all sizes since 1965 (USAF for 20 years, retired), and everything with a fan sucks in dirt! We cleaned corporate/government computers on a 6 month Preventive Maintenance Inspection Schedule! That meant total shutdown, vacuum, and even blowing out the cobwebs and dust bunnies from the heatsinks (FIRE hazard!).

Yes, it's THAT important! All of my 80 Linux, BSD, & Mac systems are elevated at least a foot off of the floor! I even have one Microsoft box (used as a Virus Magnet!), that is on a desktop! Most systems sit up next to the monitor! Easier to work on when they need upgrades to hardware! Smell smoke quicker, too!

Oh yeah, I service computers, for clients, on-site, and have seen a PSU fan that was clogged with live roaches! Please don't be so sloppy with your fast food around your computer!
And, most drinks, spilled fluids, will stop a keyboard, or a mouse, FOREVER!

As opposed to lying on the floor? There is no problem with setting a computer on a hard wooden, concrete, or tile surface. Carpet, on the other hand, interfers with the air circulation and tends to make the computer overheat.

Not really, it better to sit it on a table or desk. They have fans on the inside that keep out dust and whatnot. That's why they should sit up on something. A carpeted floor would especially be a bad idea.

Heat rises...so the best place for a computer is on the floor :)

No. They tend to get dirtier. I had one on the floor and one raised, and the raised one needed less cleaning. Plus if you have the monitor on the floor, you would have to lie down and crick your neck just to look at it. You would almost have to be a contortionist! Doesn't mean they can't.

actually your tower should be off the floor, due to spiders in many homes entering pc. They sense the warmth and homestead

It's better to have them up off the floor.
Down there the fan will draw every pice of lint and crud inside the CPU... eventually making it run hot until one day.... pfffft! it's dead.
Besides, it's easier to get to the CD-DVD drive bays too up on the desk.

Well, there is no harm done, so sure, as long as the floor isn't sopping wet or something.
