Pure chance and tolerant parents that let you use whatever hand you want. It would be a good idea to learn new actions, like folding laundry or setting tent stakes, with your left hand (mirror the folks demonstrating)((or your less used hand, whichever)) so that both hands and arms have the pathways and motor habits, in case of accident.

It is partially the genetic wiring of your brain. Also, you do try things out as a kid to discover which hand to use. Some who have had bad accidents, have changed hands out of necessity. I am ambidextrous and always have been.

I believe that nothing really "dictates" what domination you are. I think that it all starts with when you are a baby and what hand you use the most. That will generally tell what hand domination you are.

genetics. I'm left-handed, my husband is right handed but all three of my kids are ambidextrous. Two tend to use their right hands more, the other depends on what she is doing (drawing, writing, eating etc.) which hand is best.
