Easy. The Avs got the best of the deal. Simply put, you don't trade away a quality defenseman for a forward, especially in the new NHL. Besides, Tanguay's numbers will suffer significantly in Calgary's defensive minded structure.

As a Flames fan, I would have traded Leo for bag of pucks. He was deffinatly the week link on deffence. He will turn into a good player someday, but when you've got Dion Phaneuf, Robin Regher, and Roman Hamrlik on deffence; you can afford to let a guy like Leopold go. Tanguay will fit in nicely, and fill a noticeable gap on the score sheet. As for this being a short term fix, I don't really see that, after all Tanguay is only 26, and Leopold will be 26 in about a month.

Short-term, the flames won the deal, b/c tanguay is better than leopold and the draft picks at this time. However, within a few years, it may end up being the total opposite because leopold will continue to get better, and the drafted players may also become very skilled players...

I believe that the Avalanche got a pretty good deal. After winning the Cup in 2001, the team has basically gone downhill with the retirement of Bourque and Roy and the trade of Peter Forsberg. Yes, there will be an offensive gap with Tanguay gone but now the aging backline is much deeper. Also, there are many prospects that the Avalanche could use like the ones that helped them past the Stars in the 2006 playoffs. Finally, the return of Marek Svatos will be a major offensive lift for the Avalanche.

I yhink that the Avs won the trade. Tanguay has been injured a lot and he hasn't really made much production. Leopold is becoming a top notch defender. It will be hard for he Flames to get someone like him back. It will be different for Kippersouff.

Flames won this trade easily. This reminds me of another Avalanche trade that they ended up regretting: Chris Drury for Derek Morris. Colorado was never the same without Chris' toughness and willingness to win in the playoffs. I think the Avs will regret giving up Tanguay big time.

The Flames. Of course, I'm not a Jordan Leopold fan since he played for the U of Minnesota.

It was equal.......as an Avs fan, it sucks to see Alex go.....but the Avs had some serious issues on defense....namely Patrice Brisebois.

The Avs were one of the top scoring teams in the league, so even without Tanguay, they should score a ton of points.
