in the general mathematical sense, 1 + 0 is 1. however, if you consider the extensive philosophical issues at play in your question, you realize that 1 + 0 can be anything. indeed, if one places 1 + 0 in the subjective realities as paramount to 1 + 0 in the objective reality (which may not even equal 1, since the objective reality may not exist and may only be an ideal for subjective realities). for all matters of convenience and to escape the confusion associated with my aforementioned statements, however, i think it is best to simply say that 1 + 0 is 1. nonetheless, the simplicity of my statement is also disputable, but that is another issue. so let's just say that the statement 1 + 0 = 1 is an abstract statement that resides in our defined realm of intersubjectivity. as the western philosopher bertrand russell suggests, there are degrees of probability for beliefs. it seems probably true that our belief that 1 + 0 is 1 is true. in fact, it is childishly basic in many cultures because it is seen as abstract, objective knowledge in the intersubjective realm (intersubjectivity being the equilibrium in which some beliefs which are subjective per se are seen as objective in a particular culture). the reason i say probably true is because the people who invented this system of numbers to help understand the truly objective goal of mathematics used terms 1 and 0 and defined various functions having to do with them, if you get what i mean. so we evaluate statements concerning 1 and 0 within the frame of reference of the people who made up this system. indeed, this system may be incorrect, since no one can actually reach that ideal of objective mathematics; they can only approximate it. still, let's just say that 1 + 0 = 1. the hero strikes again!
