I have tried all the home made stuff. Took too long to see results. So I now use the snail pellets. Works instantly and lasts for several weeks.

Good Question. You seem like an interesting person that
enjoys nature and all that it means...Except for those
pesky snails and slugs. Here are the top three ways to
stop them from eating your plants:

1. Place small capfulls of vinegar in garden beds
that seem to be haunted by the creatures.
( This will kill them when they drink from them)
2. Keep pots or flowerbeds raised off of the ground.
3. Simply tell them to stop when you see them.

Just a note, Snails are fascinating creatures and I have always
thought it would be neat to keep one in an aquarium setting.
Take one prisoner, set it up with soil, rocks and plants.
Maybe keeping one or two as specimens will change your
ideas about them.

Take a small can from something such as tuna and be sure the can is clean with the label removed, Place can near the plant or plants you want to protect, fill the can with beer, the snails are attracted to the beer and they drown, perhaps not the most humane way, but it is something my father used to do as a remedy for snails and slugs

If you'd like to use organic controls for snails, dust dried hot pepper in problem areas.Mix with diatomaceous earth for economy.Coarse-textured,crushed hot pepper like that used for pizza is best.. Citrus oil spray works well and coffee grounds sprinkled on top of the mulch also helps. Trapping can be done with banana peels, eaten grapefruit halves, apple cores, and beer or yeast water traps.Beer placed in a saucer or pan sunken to ground level will do them in as well. Keep in mind that there is a beneficial snail also. It is called the decollate snail, and it eats other snails, instead of your plants.

I have heard that if you bury small tuna fish cans in the dirt up to the rim and then put beer in them, the snails will crawl in, and you know the rest!

Do Snails Eat Flowers

i've seen other folks do this, and i think it works. for snails and slugs, set out some containers of flat beer. I don't know if they drown in it or if the beer itself kills them, but i've heard told that little dishes or small containers of beer will attract the snails and keep your garden free of them.

They love beer in a shallow lid set out in the garden. It seems to get rid of them too. They drink too much. There is too much growth and not enough air flow.
