Why so so many people people give voodoo such a bad rap. Do they not realize that it's a actual religion with roots older than Christianity. And/or they just buying into Hollywoods perception of it?

Hollywood had a lot to do with Voodoo being seen as an evil practice. Voodoo dolls, zombies, etc.
Also, Voodoo was practiced mainly by slaves, so it got a very bad rap from the beginning. Anything associated with black people was dubbed ignorant, evil, ungodly, and profane. It's a stigma that will probably never be completely removed.

I don't necessarily believe that it is evil, but I do think that a lot of people in modern times have used it for shock value and such, which has reinforced the concept that it is. Voodoo in my opinion is a belief nothing more, just like Christianity, or Buddhism, or any other religion.

There is no good and evil in voodoo. Actually the negative stereotyping started around the time of christianity. I once read a theory about perception of africans/haitians' culture. Black people are "black". Devil is evil. Evil is associated with the dark or blackness. People fear what they don't know. That is a given.

Unfortunately Hollywwod only focuses on the evil part of it. It's more interesting apparently. Most Vodun practicioners are actually normal everyday people. It's merely a small sect of these people who actually use the evil magic.

VOODOO is not evil. It is beautiful and reflects all parts of life. I admire the VOODOO practicioner very much.

Vodoun is a religious practice, and like many other things in this wide world that are misunderstood it is maligned.
If this is a practice you choose, dont wory about why folks think and act the way they do about it. Just worship as per your beliefs...

depends on whether or not they are practicing "with both hands" But inherntly evil... absolutely NOT it is an excellent way to connect with the ancestors & with divine energy!
