I'm just wondering if weight has anything to do with how much one bleeds. Gosh I hate this time of month... -_-

Weight has no bearing on how much someone bleeds during a period. The average woman loses less than 2 ounces of blood during a period. If one is overweight or underweight, your periods can be irregular or absent because of it, but that is the only change.

Actually I am just learning about this myself due to recent distressing irregularities. I think there is a variety of factors affecting this, and there are many, many websites you can check out with a basic search. Excess estrogen and low progesterone can affect the amount of bleeding. (Use a progesterone cream for that, and more than the instructions say.) Whether or not your liver is functioning properly can greatly affect it (try Thislyn liver cleanse and drink a lot of water). I have been studying fibroids and how women who are over 35 and larger than normal are likely to get them. There are also genetic factors. Also the amount of exercise you do affects it - the doctor told me athletes usually have more progesterone than estrogen and are less likely to bleed heavily, or they even skip periods due to the amount of exercise and exertion they expend. If you find yourself a lot tireder each month, you can try getting a full 8 hours of sleep and taking more iron. I was prescribed ferrous sulfate, 60 mg morning and night. If you get dizzy I have done pretty well with taking salmon oil capsules, too. Also nutrition affects it as well - cut way back on grains, sugar, caffeine, dairy products, red meat, and fats and eat more leafy green vegetables like chard and increase your intake of calcium (capsules if your liver function is low). Now if it has to do with someone who is underweight, here is something new I also learned recently - women who have a history of asthma or fibromyalgia in their families or themselves, or if they are at risk of developing those conditions - have been reported as having a higher level of antibodies in their system - which can also magnify those monthly symptoms, including things like migraines. Apparently it's related to how food allergies work as well. If you are just miserable you can also try seeing a nutritionist or a doctor. Oh yeah, and it will be hard to eat healthy if you like chocolate like I do!

weight has nothing to do with it. Every woman is different. And then meds can play into it as well, some can increase the flow, others will lighten it. I will say that if you want to combat the cramps and such you need to eat healthy beginning the week before, as fatty, salty, sugary foods will increase bloating and other unpleasant side effects of your period. Remember that Ibuprofen is your friend. Also take multivitamins, they will replace nutrients your body looses. Don't start taking them when your period hits, then it's too late, either take them all the time or start the week before.

No, weight has nothing to do with how much you bleed. If varies female to female. I know I'm a thick chick. My periods last 2 1/2 days, always.

My friend who is like a match stick can go up to 10days, Heavy flow.

I think it depends on how active you are. The more active the less blood.

I know serious female athletes usually don't have a period or if they do its very light and lasts 1-2 days. I don't think weight has anything to do with having a heavy cycle. I started at13 and my cycle lasted 7 days. I am 38 now and its about 4-5 days and not so heavy. I am praying for menopause. LOL!

Yes I truly believe that people who are overweight bleed more than people who are of average size. Some people who are underweight dont get a period.

No, everyone is going to bleed differently. There is a lot that can make the bleeding heavier or lighter. If you have any kinds of female issues..like fibroids, endo. This is something to talk to your mother about or even the family doctor.

Yes! That is very true. My sister is heavier than me and her periods lasted only 3 days. When I was a teenager I was really skinny and my periods lasted 10 to 11 days. I have put on wieght since then and now they only last 5 to 6 days. Your body has to have enough body fat on it to only last a few days. If it lasts up to what I use to be its because your under wieght.
