I bought the kit : http://www.sterndrive.info/sterndriveparts/mercruiser_water_pump_kits.html...

The black rubber impeller in teh old unit has teh "arms bent so it can rotate easily in the housing. To fit tehnew impeller into teh housing I need to get all the rubber vanes bent so it fits in. Its jsut seated so tight to rotate I am worried soemthing is wrong. Is thsi normal? And how do you decide which way to bend tehvanes when inserting it.

As you lower the Cover over the Impeller, just turn the Shaft and it will bend up like the other one. Look at your old one and you can tell which way to turn the shaft!
You can spray it with a Silicon Spray and it may go easier. It will feel Tight when it new.

Snagglefritz banged it ! read what he said, also never spin the old impeller over and re-use it, the vanes will break, tight is how the new ones fit, don't worry, she'll loosen up, try a little soap/warm water when installing, thats what I do anyway.
