I have always lived in the city or in busy suburbs. I'm ok with it. But I love visiting the country, and I love country people. Would I want to live there permanently? I don't know. But I sure wish I could give it a try.

Thank God I'm a country girl! Or rather, a Mountain Granny. Crowds bother me, and cities are crowded. I used to live in cities, and never understood why I was always so stressed out.
I lived in small towns and farm country in Pennsylvania as a child, and rejected it for big city life when I was a young adult, eager to lose myself in the crowd and thus get away from my ex-husband. Didn't work anyway; he found me in Rittenhouse Square in Philadelphia and tried to bully me into going "home" with him.
So I favored the anonymity of cities for years, until I met Steve. Then he took me to the smallish town of Santa Cruz, California, and we moved to the even smaller town of Ben Lomond, then the even smaller town of Boulder Creek, which is where I live alone now since Steve died.
Now I want to go even further up into the woods, get even further away from it all, but I can't because (a) I don't drive, and the bus routes further up in the hills run even less often, which gets to be a major pain in the buns and (2) there's not much to rent up in the woods, and buying property up there in competition with BMW driving nerds who commute to Silicon Valley is prohibitively expensive. So here I am, in a friendly, funky small town in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
