Nasturtium are very colorful and come in a bush type or creeping for a vine.
Their seeds are right inside the flower pod. It shows up after the blossom falls off. Just pull one off and open it for a seed about the size of 3 BB's. Impatiens seed is in a soft little pod also. If you don't harvest the seed it will shoot it into the garden. You can even hear it pop. If you open the pod the tiny seeds will fall in your hand and you can strew them in another place. Marigold flowers also become the seed. Let the flower die on the plant and dry out. It will feel so dry. Pull this off and open it. Hundreds of seed will fall out. They are about 1" long and dark colored. Plants that you buy every year (annuals) have seed. Other plants that you don't have to buy every year because they grow back (perennials) usually have roots called rhizomes or tubers that can just be divided to get more plants.

I think you can go pretty much by what it took to plant it and make it grow. If it came from a bulb, then no. If it took seeds, then yes.
