I do this all the time when coming to hills to help save gas/..
I now have 175,000 on my truck

No not really, but an automatic transmission has a lot of moving parts, and in neutral more are moving than in drive. But at my age, down hill. I still do it to let the engine cool down after a long climb sometimes.

Well do you have a five speed or an automatic? I don't think it'd hurt a five speed if you shift into the right gear. Not sure about an automatic though.

Not ussually but why? Some people think they save fuel by going into nuetral while going downhill but most trans now coast on there own

no as long as in you're in the right gear you should be fine either way though i don't think it matters if you shift into a low gear your car will rev until it slows down

if you have a standard, definately not. and not so much damage with an automatic
