There are great looking and not so great looking people in every profession. Some people are simply attracted to the uniform, or the idea of being with a "hero", regardless if the object of their infatuation has ever really rescued someone or not. The movies and TV shows usually have a handsome actor in the firefighter and paramedic roles as well. Yes in my opinion it has become very stereotyped. There are just as many overweight or super thin guys as there are gorgeous ones (and of course there are some that are handsome), and most of them could not cause a gal to skip a beat either if you saw them in person. If gorgeous was a requirement, the department would have an extremely small unit of people in it!

Well... you haven't been around long then to see very many of them.
lol
No, it is not necessarily true that they are all good looking. The only reason that it sometimes seems so, is that they need to be physically fit to do the things necessary to save lives, lift, and perform the various physically demanding duties that they are required to do on the job. They need have strength, coordination, endurance, and skill. Therefore, the probability of them being toned and fit is high. But not necessarily "gorgeous". They are not there to pin up on the calendar.
I would hope that if I was trapped inside a burning building unable to move, that they would have more skills than looking good in a uniform.

prob just a stereotype. Women (well, most women) love a man in uniform. In order to be a firefighter or paramedic the man almost always has to be in top condition physically. I mean, lifting patients onto a cart and into an ambulance or hauling pounds of equipment plus carrying a fire hose isn't for any weakling. Women love strong arms to hold them and a great solid chest and abs to back them up. well, that's just IMO. :-)

It is just a stereotype. The reason for it is because they do dangerous jobs and that appeals to some types. Other occupations have gorgeous men working, as well. They just don't get the attention.

Definately stereotype...
Firemen/policemen, are to me, Angels in Disguise! They are from all walks of life, men, women, short, tall, thin, a little overweight...They are there for one purpose...To give a helping hand, wherever needed, and putting their lives on the line always...Remember 9/11...

it's a stereotype, but I guess the mind makes people gorgeous when they're doing something like running into burning buildings or saving heart attack victims.

Just as some women are turned on by "men in uniform", some people can be attracted to people that help to save lives.
