I've sprayed my lawn with mosquito killer and it didn't phase them. My little girl loves to play outside and I spray her and myself with deep woods off and we still get hammered. I don't know what else to do. There is no standing or stagnant water near by. Anyone have any ideas. I've heard the citrosa plants and lemon grass don't really help. I hate making her stay inside but I don't want her getting bit so much. Please help. Thanks.

have you checked your gutters? they are notorious for standing water. how about getting a screen tent, the kind that campers use for putting around a picnic table. That might allow you to give her some fun outdoor time. Mosquitoes usually stick around a 100 yard radius, are you sure there is no hidden area of standing water? are you in a municipality? if so, call your chamber of commerce, as some will investigate to find the hidden causes for you. Also some will spray an entire area on a regular basis if enough people complain. Ours does every 2 weeks. Try Avon skin-so-soft - regular formula. That works for some people. Do the citronella candles too, as they do help as well. The color of clothes that you wear can attract them, as well as the kind of soap or shampoo you use. Do you go out after sweating? They love the smell of sweat. The link will give you some other hints. I don't like the propane vacuums or bug zappers, as they kill a lot more good bugs than bad ones. For every mosquito killed, you destroy many more beneficial insects - including the ones that eat mosquitoes. Birds and bats also eat mosquitoes. Good luck!

Make sure there is no water standing stagnant anywhere in the proximity to your yard. Even a neighbors pool can attract them. Water standing in empty flower pots. Or maybe a nearby pond. ??
Marigolds repel mosquito's. Also for a quick safe alternative to sprays.....Avon's Skin So Soft works and so does rubbing dryer sheets on before being out.
Also Lemon Eucalyptus Oil.

Here are some suggestions I have tried that worked: 1) plant some marigolds around your yard. There is a smell they don't like and usually stay away 2) Avon Skin-so-soft and finally 3) I have used Vic's vaporub on my skin and they stay away. This was done when I 'enjoyed' being outside. I am not an outside person now and therefore have not had one-to-one hand combat with those pesky mosquitos. I hate them - so I stay INSIDE.

Well if there is no standing water, there's really not much you can do except make sure she has on sunscreen with repellent built in it. After a couple of years of mosquitoe bites, they do not cause such large wealps in children...cause the kids body will get antibiodies from the bites. You can try one of those electric critter killers or citranella candles.

Get one of these new propane devices. They generate carbon dioxide which is what attracts mosquito's then they are sucked into a bag by a fan.

They really work well. You can find them at Sam's or most lawn & garden centers.

go to ace hardware and get one of those propane powered mosquito and other bug vacuums, they're cool because they really work, and you can see it when you clean out the filter cuz it's cpovered in bugs, it;s well worth it, they have ones that will cover a small backyard ofr even acres.
