What determines beauty is your reaction to it. I guess the idea of beauty is stimulated by anything that gives us joy or pleasure. I don't necessarily agree that the answer always lies within symmetry or the beholder. Plenty of masterpieces are not symmetrical at all. The beholder is not always accurate either as the perceptions of the beholder may change. I have been in situations where I found a person, place or thing to be unattractive. Once I became more accustomed to the person, place or thing, I started to find things I thought were beautiful about them or it.

Well, what type of beauty? Like, a beautiful person? If that's the case, then beauty is what's on the inside (sexuality is the visual).

If you're talking about a sunset or a site, or a movie, or something different, it probably depends on the person's life experiences and expectations.

Personal opinion. Everyone has a different preference. Many people find different attributes of others to be beautiful that some may not even notice.
