Don't think it's gonna happen, at least not in the US in the near future. Most people at heart are still racists, tough they may deny it. Unfortunate, but many of em wouldn't want the off-spring of slaves to rule over their good ole white country.

No one can predict the future. We have had non-whites run for President in the past. Two who come to mind are the so-called Reverend Jesse Jackson and the so-called Reverend Al Sharpton. It is not hard for me to understand why neither has ever been elected to any office. It's not because they are black, it's because they are both kooks.
Governors have the best shot at the Presidency. Racial minorities have a better chance at becoming governor at some time in the near future. Maybe, after that, someone will rise to the top when he or she shows leadership at the state level.

If Collin Powell would be willing to run as VP on the Democratic ticket in '08 and it won, he could be a successful candidate in '12.

He's got national and global respect, is known as a man of integrity and honor and is certainly well-known within the Republican Party. If the Democrats understand the need to gain-back alot of voters they've lost, he may be the man who could bring them back.

I doubt he's interested in public service anymore, but he once held a high sense of duty and may still, or might be drawn back if he was convinced he'd actually be able to make a difference.

.. people... do you think that the South and the elderly will vote for a non-white Republican? of course not... it's silly to even mention it...

Republicans can't win without the south. They aren't stupid enough to shoot themselves in the foot by trying either...

Obama CLEARLY has the inside advantage in 16 for your question... I look for the dems to win in 08 and whoever wins will run again in 12 (if a dem doesn't win in 08, maybe Obama in 12)... it's not happening in 08 unless EVERYTHING changes in the next two years...

we are still far too racist as a society to allow this in 08...unfortunately

Barack Obama Senator from Illinois, although he's stated several times he has no intention of running anytime soon. Plus he's still just a freshman Senator.

I've had several meetings with him and find him to be amazingly "in-touch" with reality. He really knows what it means to be an American. The son of a Kansas native mother and an African Native father, he is what it means to be American.
Compassionate, firm in his resolve yet still open to the people he serves.
Watch for him in the future, he's got a real chance at making great strides.

Colin Powell, Condeleeza Rice, Bill Richardson (I assume that you mean the traditional definition of anglo) starting now.

Barak Obama, Harold Ford in 2012.

All have or will have a legitimate resume and impressive political skills by 2012.

In my opinion, Powell would have had a legitimate shot in 2000 if he had chosen to run.

I think if the Democrats had any sense that they would nominate a Bill Richardson/Hillary Clinton ticket in 2008.

I don't know about '08 or even '12 for that matter. But, I think our children will defintely see it in their lifetime. Now whether he/she will live out their full term is still a question.

I wish Colin Powell would run for President. I would vote for him.

Barack Obama. He's smart and funny. He'd be a great president, if only the Democrats would emulate the Republican strategy of APPEALING TO THEIR BASE, they might have a GOOD chance of getting him elected. But Democrats trying to be Republicans "light" is disheartening.

Colin Powell. He resigned out of his integrity to his conscience and the American People, after being forced to lie about the situation in Iraq before the war. We need integrity in the White House and all through Congress!!!!!
