I want to know why it is the parents in india want to select the spouses for their children and not the kids.?

Arranged marriages generally work out quite well in those cultures. Since the women don't go out to work and don't hang out in clubs, their chances of meeting someone to marry would be pretty slim without their parents help.

There is also a caste system in India and other places where there are only those they can marry from specific families. This way the parents know they are going to be well provided for and hopefully treated well by their mate.

At one time arranged marriages were normal in the USA too.

Women didn't hold jobs and their parents didn't wish to support them for their entire life so they would offer a dowry of money, farm animals, and other goods to entice a man. Those marriages lasted better than what we have today where everyone selects their own mate. We find spouses to be easily expendable....they did not.

Because it's part of their tradition,and they also are suppose to wear a tattoo called henna which means they are getting ingaged.
Lastly it is part of their tradition in India. Some countries are different you know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.

EVEN THOUGH NOT AS PREVALENT, U.S.A. HAD MANY FAMILIES WHO CHOSE THIS TRADITION. DURING THE 1970'S THEY STILL HAD 'SHOTGUN WEDDINGS'. I WOULD NOT BE SURPRISED IF SOMEWHERE IN THE USA 2006, IT STILL OCCURS. I CONCUR WITH YOU. I MYSELF, DO NOT WANT ANYONE TO MAKE THAT DECISION FOR ME. ESPECIALLY ALL FACETS OF THE GOVERNMENT.
